The following was submitted by a friend of mine. I’m proud of the words he wrote. A relationship with God is something he thought he always had, but never really owned it for himself. Just went through the motions. Death and changes in his life have caused him to re-evaluate all of this. We all need to own these aspects of our life. Don’t just go through the motions but ask questions, see the need for change, and implement those changes in your life.
Over the course of the last year or so I have started to put more focus on God and my relationship with Him than ever before. As everyone knows, it can be easy to stray from the path that leads you to Him; life happens, it may not seem important at the time, you may not have something to ask Him for, or you may think “tomorrow” is the day you’ll start to rebuild your relationship with Him. The fact of the matter is, you may not get a tomorrow.
This past year my family has lost some dear friends and it is constant reminder that we are all mortal and shall seek Him for solace, not only in our darkest days, but also give thanks to Him for what he has provided for us. Every night I sit down down for dinner I make sure we say a prayer, giving thanks for the meal the Lord has provided for us followed with a moment of silent prayer for anything else we might want to speak with Him about. I remember growing up in a household where we said a prayer before meals but looking back, did I really know what I was doing? Or was I just going through the motions? Now, as an adult, I see and feel the importance this has in my life and the people around me.
My relationships with God, family and friends have grown and while losing someone close to you is hard, I take comfort in knowing He, along with everyone I have lost from this life, is watching over me, guiding me down the right path, and bringing me closer to Him every day. For example, I had no idea I would come home from work today to type this message but I felt compelled to share just a brief bit of what it is that has made my life better overall through this past year. No matter who you are, what you do, how much money you make, or how good or bad you might think your life is right now; God is with you and he has a grand plan for you. It is never to late to let Him into your heart.
